Apprentice Plumber

Overview Auburn University is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Plumber to join our Facilities Management Division. This entry‑level role is designed for individuals who would like to join a plumbing apprenticeship program, with the goal of developing the knowledge and hands‑on skills needed to become a journey‑level plumber over a four‑year training period. As an Apprentice Plumber, you’ll receive a blend of classroom instruction and paid, on‑the‑job experience, giving you the opportunity to learn while contributing to meaningful work across campus. Under the guidance of experienced journey‑level plumbers, you will assist with day‑to‑day maintenance, installation, and repair tasks. As your skills grow, so will your responsibilities. Apprentice plumbers at Auburn learn to work safely and effectively, follow the International Plumbing Code, and comply with all state and local regulations and standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with their hands, and being part of a team that keeps campus facilities operating smoothly. In this role, you will: Develop foundational skills in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair. Learn to interpret and apply plumbing codes and safety practices. Assist with troubleshooting issues involving piping, fixtures, drainage, and water systems. Support a team committed to maintaining a safe, reliable, and efficient campus environment. Responsibilities Maintains University grounds using hand tools such as a shovel, pick, and rake, as well as power tools including a weed eater, edger, hedge trimmer, tiller, and blower. Operates a push and riding mower to mow grass and operates utility task vehicles to perform work. Performs basic landscape-related duties on University grounds to include weed pulling, plant watering, pine straw/mulch installation, and sod installation. Provides debris removal with cleaning and litter control equipment to keep University grounds, streets, and parking lots free of dirt, leaves, trash, and other debris. Maintains University landscapes through the use of a pressure washer. Maintains and cleans hand and power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, checking fluid levels and blade sharpness. May be responsible for meeting and maintaining training and certifications requirements as outlined by the applicable department's training and credentialing requirements.
