One Chairman, one Vice-Chairman, one Treasurer, one Secretary and four Council members. Each official is elected by all eligible voters (18 or older) of the Nooksack Tribe. Today the Nooksack Indian Tribe is the largest employer in eastern Whatcom County. Nooksack Tribal Business entities include Nooksack Indian Tribe Administration, Nooksack Market Centre, Nooksack River Casino, Nooksack Northwood Casino, and Nooksack Construction Company. NOOKSACK INDIAN TRIBE  JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title:CD Prevention Youth and Young Adult Support Worker Department:Health Reports To:CD Program Manager Job Status: Non Exempt Type: Regular Full time Grade:C JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the CD Program Manager, the CD Prevention Youth and Young Adult Support Worker delivers support services to youth, young adults and their families in compliance with the SAMHSA Programs Prevention support and activities. Build understanding of the program by communicating its mission and services to youth, young adults, families and the community. This position focuses on how to empower and engage youth and young adults with prevention tools to prevent and or reduce drug and alcohol abuse and to promote health and wellness. MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Outreach to community youth and young adult through referral and in homes, schools, youth programs 2. Complete an initial intake of youth and young adult to enroll in the NWOL Programs. 3. Schedule and support the caseload meeting with clients to ensure they are fully supported to progress and achieve desired outcomes. 4. Maintain ongoing documentation on each client files. 5. Regularly monitor, review, and document the youth and young adults participation in prevention activities 6. Establish trusting relationships with youth and young adults 7. Build partnerships with professionals from other departments/organizations that support youth and young adults, such as social and health care, behavioral health, chemical dependency, education, youth offending teams, local authorities and police department. 8. Respond to crises and access support services  9. Attend regular training and development opportunities  10. Undertake administrative tasks as needed 11. Contribute to a safe friendly innovative environment and work respectfully with youth and young adults, their families and community. 12. Collaborate with SAMHSA staff to facilitate and provide culturally rich curricular activities that relate to Healing of the Canoe, Nooksack Way of Life and Positive Indian Parenting. 13. Provide a broad range of care and support interventions for youth and young adults. 14. Attend and chaperone overnight conferences, canoe races, Canoe Journey and other overnight activities including leaving on short notice. 15. Adhere to NWOL policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement OTHER DUTIES: Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities. PREFERENCE: * Indian Preference Policy applies to this and all positions with the Nooksack Indian Tribe. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to have, in order to be considered for the position. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:  * A combination of relevant education, experience and qualifications which include 3 of the following: * Advice and guidance * Childcare * Community work * Education * Counseling * Health  * Social care * Youth work REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITION: * Ability to get along with people of all ages especially youth and young adults and gain their trust. * By be tactful, patience and understanding. * Mental strength, to cope with challenging situations and clients. * Well organized but able to flex and manage competing priorities and deadlines * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver innovative solutions * Team player, able to work in a collaborative way * Ability to think on feet and act proactively with discretion  REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: * Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and throughout employment. * Must pass criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter. REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:  * Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver’s License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe. (Must Provide Driving Abstract at time of hire).  * Must be CPR/First Aid Certified or obtain within the first 6 months of employment * Obtain HIPPA training PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.): * The standard work week is 8:30-5:00 Monday through Friday (occasionally may have to work evenings and overnight) * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods and frequently required to talk and listen. * Sitting for extended periods while at a desk or in meetings. * Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, calculator, and telephone system * Ability to lift up to 20+ pounds without assistance occasionally. * Typical office setting with environmentally controlled conditions. * Read, write, speak and understand English * Ability to listen, understands customers, and has the ability to translate rules, regulations, and policies to clients so they understand the issues/problems. * Operate in mentally and physically stressful situations with composure. * May have to walk/drive between office locations under a variety of conditions. * Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip from assigned work areas.
