We are looking for a detail person who will own our weld maps — every weld annotated, every NDT result and material test report entered, and every diameter inch of progress logged in WeldTrace — and who can build and check a hydro or pneumatic test book that holds up. If you like the kind of work where the numbers either tie out or they don’t, we want to talk. THE OPPORTUNITY The EPC Project Assistant’s primary focus is weld map data entry in WeldTrace. You annotate the weld maps as the field completes work, enter welding and NDT (RT, UT, PT, MT) results against each weld, and enter material test report (MTR) and heat number data onto the weld maps so every weld is fully traceable. The weld progress the project team, the client, and our billing run on comes out of the data you enter. From there the role extends into job preparation and piping test packages — building, editing, and checking the hydrostatic and pneumatic test books the field and the client sign off on — and into quantity takeoffs, where you take off concrete volumes, structural steel tonnage, pipe footage, and weld inch from the drawings and number the flanges that feed the torque log, to support estimates, budgets, and progress reporting. This is an office-based position in Lakewood, Colorado working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and a direct path into project controls, estimating, QA/QC role. POSITION DETAILS Reports To: Execution Manager Direct Reports: None FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Location: Lakewood, CO — office-based Travel: Minimal — up to 10% for project site visits Department: Construction Operations WHAT YOU WILL DO Weld Map Data Entry — WeldTrace (Primary Focus) Annotate the weld maps in WeldTrace as the field completes work — weld numbers, welder IDs, weld procedures, and dates — so the map matches what was actually welded. Enter welding and NDT results against each weld: RT, UT, PT, and MT reports, acceptance status, and repair and re-shoot history. Enter material test report (MTR) and heat number data onto the weld maps so every joint carries full material traceability. Input and annotate weld progress as it is completed, and keep the diameter-inch complete figures current for project and client reporting. Maintain WeldTrace projects and keep the data accurate — drawing and line revisions, weld map updates, and welder and procedure records. Verify each weld carries the documentation it requires, and flag missing or conflicting welding, NDT, or material records to the project team early — while it is still a paperwork problem and not a turnover problem. Job Preparation & Piping Test Packages Prepare piping test books (test packages) for hydrostatic and pneumatic testing: assemble the isometric and P&ID set, mark the test boundaries and blinds, and state the test pressure, medium, and hold time. Edit and check test packages prepared by others — confirm the boundaries close, the test pressure and medium match the line list and spec, and every weld inside the boundary is documented and accepted before the package is issued. Compile the weld, material, and NDT records that back each package, and resolve the gaps before the package goes to the client or the field. Track test package status from preparation through client review, test execution, and sign-off, and roll the completed packages into turnover documentation. Assist with job preparation — assembling the drawing, weld map, and test package sets the crews work from before a job starts. Quantity Takeoffs Perform quantity takeoffs from the drawings: concrete volumes, structural steel tonnage, pipe footage, and weld inch by line, area, and drawing. Take off pipe footage from the isometrics and piping plans by line number, size, and spec, and reconcile the footage back to the line list. Number the flanges on the isometrics and take off flange counts by size and rating to build and maintain the flange torque log the field bolts up from. Roll takeoff quantities up into clean, checkable summaries that estimating, project management, and project controls can use directly. Track installed quantities against the takeoff so earned progress can be reported against a real quantity basis. Re-take off quantities when drawings are revised, and identify what changed between revisions. Documentation & Project Support File welding, NDT, and material documentation (MTRs and COCs) to the project network and file-sharing sites, and keep project folders organized and consistently named. Assist with the project closeout process — assembling weld and material turnover documentation and archiving the project folder at completion. Assist with various tasks as required, contributing to the overall efficiency of EPC construction project execution. Enters progress and NDT results as they come in rather than catching up at the end of the month. 04 Drawing & Package Literacy Reads isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, line lists, and structural and civil drawings well enough to know when the paperwork and the drawing disagree. 05 Takeoff Accuracy Takes off concrete, steel, pipe footage, weld inch, and flange counts the same way every time, shows the basis, and produces a number someone else can check and trust. 06 Quality Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, looks for ways to improve and promote quality, applies feedback, and monitors their own work. 07 Checking & Follow-Through Checks a test package like the person who has to stand next to it. Chases the missing NDT report or MTR until it is in hand — nothing quietly dies in the inbox. 08 Dependability Follows instructions and management direction, takes responsibility for their own actions, keeps commitments, and completes tasks on time or raises an alternate plan. 09 Organized Self-Direction Manages multiple projects and deadlines at once and takes responsibility for their own deliverables and timelines without daily direction. 10 Ownership Mentality Treats the weld maps and the quantity basis as theirs. Sees what is missing before being told and proposes the fix rather than waiting for the process to catch it. Qualifications: WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Required High school diploma or GED required. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail entering high volumes of technical data. Ability to read construction drawings — piping isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, and structural and civil plans. Competent in the Microsoft Office suite — Excel, Word, and Outlook — as well as other software required to execute daily tasks. Comfortable with basic construction math: areas, volumes, weights, linear footage, and diameter inch. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to self-direct and take responsibility for your own tasks, deliverables, and timelines. Preferred Associate’s degree. 1+ years of project administrative, document control, or QC data entry experience. 1+ years of industry experience in engineering and construction. Experience with WeldTrace or a similar weld tracking / QC database. Familiarity with NDT reports (RT, UT, PT, MT), MTRs, and heat number traceability in an ASME B31.3 environment. Experience preparing or checking piping test packages (test books) for hydrostatic or pneumatic testing, including test boundaries and blind lists. Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 pressure testing requirements — test pressure, medium, and hold time — and of pneumatic stored energy and safe distance. Familiarity with flange bolt-up and torque logs — flange numbering, bolt size, and torque values. Quantity takeoff experience for concrete, structural steel, or piping — pipe footage, weld inch, and flange counts — by hand or with a takeoff tool.
