JOB TITLE: Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) – Incident Response Vehicle Driver DEPARTMENT: Operations REPORTS TO: Driver Supervisor and Operations Managers SUMMARY: The Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) Driver position is a safety-sensitive role requiring professionalism, reliability, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Drivers respond to roadway incidents throughout the Reno/Sparks metropolitan area and surrounding freeway corridors while assisting motorists and supporting public safety operations. Successful candidates must be able to quickly learn and navigate the Reno/Sparks freeway system, major surface streets, interchanges, and surrounding service areas. Clear communication, accurate documentation, and professionalism under pressure are essential. Our goal is to provide professional, efficient, and courteous roadside assistance while maintaining the highest standards of roadway safety. QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum 1 year automotive maintenance experience required * Minimum 1 year professional driving experience highly preferred * Valid Nevada Driver License required * Must be at least 21 years of age * Ability to quickly learn and navigate the Reno/Sparks metropolitan area, including major roadways, freeway systems, and surrounding service areas * Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English for dispatch communication, report completion, safety procedures, and customer interaction * Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds * Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements * Must pass criminal background check, drug and alcohol screening, and driver license investigation * No moving violations within the past three years * No criminal convictions * Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance preferred PAID HANDS-ON TRAINING INCLUDES Training duration is typically 2 weeks and includes both classroom and field instruction. * Community First Aid and Safety Program * National Emergency Vehicle Operations Course * OSHA HAZMAT First Responder Program * CPR Certification * Department Flagging Course or approved equivalent * ICS Training * TIMS SHARP Training DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Adhere to all company policies and procedures * Respond to calls from NDOT Dispatch safely and efficiently * Maintain communication with dispatch regarding status, location, and assignments * Operate MDT/CTO systems, radios, and other communication equipment * Respond to motorists in a courteous, professional, and timely manner * Gather and relay accurate incident information to dispatch * Complete required reports, logs, and documentation accurately and legibly * Attend all required training sessions and meetings * Conduct daily inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment * Report vehicle mechanical issues immediately to supervisors and maintenance personnel * Maintain vehicle cleanliness and replenish fuel, oil, and coolant as needed * Remove roadway debris in accordance with company procedures * Obey all traffic laws and safety regulations * Maintain a professional appearance and wear full uniform at all times * Notify supervisors of urgent operational or safety concerns * Support law enforcement, fire, medical, and emergency personnel as needed KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with motorists, dispatchers, first responders, and co-workers * Ability to read and interpret manuals, procedures, maps, dispatch information, and written instructions * Ability to think clearly and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions * Ability to recognize when assistance or additional resources are needed * Skill in operating communication and emergency response equipment PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Employees must utilize safe lifting techniques and follow all safety procedures while working in and around active traffic conditions. WORK ENVIRONMENT Duties are performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and hazardous roadway environments. Employees are required to wear full safety gear, including reflective safety vest and steel-toed boots, at all times. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires satisfactory completion of a background investigation, drug and alcohol screening, and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
