Internship Summary This is an unpaid internship designed to provide a hands-on, educational experience for students interested in collegiate athletics. Interns will gain meaningful exposure to the operations of a Division I athletic department supporting 30 varsity programs at the United States Military Academy, the greatest leadership institution in the world. Through training, mentorship, and guided participation, interns will work alongside full-time professionals and explore how a high-performing athletics department operates. The internship emphasizes learning, professional development, and career exploration, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at college athletics while building transferable skills for the future. Interns in Sports Nutrition will gain exposure to overall sports nutrition counseling and information (i.e - pre/post meals and snacks, athlete performance plates, and proper supplementation) for Division 1 cadet athletes, while working closely with the Director of Performance Nutrition. Under supervision, interns will: * Assist the Director of Performance Nutrition in conducting current sports nutrition research to gain insight on current nutrition trends * Assist in stocking the nutrition fuel stations  * Communicate with strength coaches, coaches, athletic trainers and administration  * Create and conduct team nutrition education talks * Collaborate with assistant sports dietitian on creating and preparing weekly nutrition snacks to offer at the fuel station (i.e - overnight oats, energy balls, etc)  * Develop professional writing skills through designing, implementing and effectively communicating a topic to promote health, lifestyle and/or nutrition message using informatics  These activities are intended to build research, communication, food service and fundamental sports nutrition skills, while introducing interns to the role a registered dietitian has within collegiate athletics. Internship Terms * Internships are for a defined term and may be concluded at any time by either the intern or Army West Point Athletics Association Inc. * Interns will be directly supervised by full-time staff members and will receive ongoing training, feedback, and mentorship throughout the internship. * The internship is intended to support academic learning and may be eligible for academic credit, depending on the intern’s institution. Interns are responsible for confirming credit eligibility and requirements with their college or university * Interns are not employees of Army West Point Athletics Association and are not entitled to wages, employee benefits, or future employment as a result of participation. Required Qualifications * Must be 18 years of age or older. * Must be a current college student or enrolled as a college student by September 2026 and provide proof of enrollment. * Have a strong interest in college athletics and sports nutrition * Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a multi-task setting. * Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate strong listening skills. * Work collaboratively with others in a professional, team-oriented environment. * Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and comfortable with online research. * Be flexible to observe and participate in learning experiences during evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules. * Show initiative, reliability, and a positive attitude while assisting on a wide range of supervised projects. About Us USMA is renowned as the world’s preeminent leadership development institution. Located on the banks of the Hudson River in West Point, NY, it is approximately one hour from New York City. The mission of USMA is "to build, educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to the Army Values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation." This position will be housed within the AWPAA, which is a non-profit corporation organized to manage and support the 30 intercollegiate athletic programs at the Academy. The AWPAA mission is to recruit, educate, train and inspire leaders of character who are committed to the Army Values through an extraordinary NCAA Division I athletic experience.
