What You'll Do Patrol Deputies perform a broad range of law-enforcement and public-safety responsibilities throughout Gunnison County. Your work may include: Responding to calls for service and emergencies Conducting patrol throughout Gunnison County Enforcing state and local laws Conducting traffic enforcement and investigating motor vehicle crashes Conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations Preparing reports, documenting incidents, and collecting information and evidence Responding to situations involving people in crisis Assisting residents, visitors, and partner agencies Providing public safety during community events and emergency operations Working in rural, mountain, highway, and changing weather conditions Collaborating with other local, state, and federal public-safety partners The work requires sound judgment, communication, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to make decisions independently while remaining part of a close team. Must complete the State Basic Training Academy or equivalent. Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment. Must be able to communicate in English, both written and orally. Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment. Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits. Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state. No felony convictions and/or serious misdemeanor, disqualifying criminal histories. Ability to meet Department's physical standards. Ability to obtain certification for CPR/First Aid. Basic Law Enforcement Training (or Police Officer Standards and Training) certification or equivalent. Ability to maintain Department proficiency standards in the use of firearms, including any tactical or equipment assigned. Must complete ICS 100 and ICS 700 within the first year of employment. May have to cover shifts or be on call in emergency situations. Successful candidates must also meet the Sheriff's Office's background and selection requirements.
