Surgery Technician/LPN Intern - Family Birthing Center - FT Varying Shifts

QUALIFICATIONS Required: Basic understanding od medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; BLS within 60 days of hire and maintained. Meets legal requirement for grandfathered training clause. TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Medium to heavy physical demands. Knowledge of and efficiently operates all equipment used. Ability to stand within limited area most of the working shift. Ability to stoop frequently; push/pull up to 1200 pounds frequently, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Possess excellent eye/hand coordination’ work under stress and constant time demands. Ability to work within a controlled traffic pattern. Able to provide quality care in an emergency basis to ensure quality patient care. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN or Certified Surgical Technician: * Scrubs, gowns, and gloves * Maintains sterile environment at all times during set up and procedure. * Sets up table, instruments, and supplies according to scheduled operation. * Assists with the preparation and draping of patient. * Assists and anticipates the needs of the Surgeon and use of instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies. * Observes patient for changes in physical status and assists with emergency procedures as needed. * Performs correct sponge, needle and instrument count with circulating RN according to unit policy. * Assists the circulating RN in care and labeling of surgical specimens. * Assists in the application of dressings and casts. * Assists with cleaning surgical suite after each case. * Responsible for cleaning equipment and restocking LDRP rooms post vaginal deliveries.   * Knowledge/safe use of medications on the surgical field. * Obtains all supplies needed by the patient, surgeon or anesthesiologist. * Obtains special equipment when needed. * Maintains correct positioning of patient during case. * Assists with moving patients from surgical table as needed. * Maintains hospital and patient confidentiality. * Knowledge of and adherence to OSHAS Safety Policies and Universal Precautions. * Effective response in emergency surgical situations. * Maintains effective working relationships. * Ability to adapt to change rapidly. Flexibility in staffing/ emergency standby to meet patient needs.   MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Performs other duties as assigned
