UPHOLSTERY TRAINEE

Position Summary:  Position Responsibilities: * Trainees will be responsible for an investment of time and dedication into learning the craft of upholstery (insider) or trimming (outsider). Trainee will be evaluated upon completion of initial training period for graduation into the final stages of the training program.  Trainees will be responsible for learning how to accurately and efficiently: Upholster- tear down, application of arms, seats, and backs, knowledge of styles and products, maintain high levels of quality while increasing speed and output. Trimmer - tear down, application of skirts, application of out-arms and out-backs, double welt and exposed wood, Introduction to brass nailing, and application of panels and bullion.   **Will be responsible for the purchase of required tools needed. **Current position will not be held and all trainees must assume a certain level of risk into entering the program.  Vanguard is offering an opportunity for advancement and trainees must be invested into the program.   Essential Skills and Experience: * Need basic knowledge of furniture * Staple gun experience desired * Has demonstrated a willingness to learn and a high level of cooperation * Need to have been a employed for a minimum of one year * Excellent Attendance Record * Good work history – verified by current and prior managers     Valued but not Required Skills and Experience: * Previous knowledge and experience in the furniture manufacturing.   Physical demands and work environment: * Lift / Carry: Lifting in Excess of 50 lbs.; team lift greater weights. Must be able to lift/remove frame from bucks.  * Standing: Must be able to stand 8+ hours. * Push / Pull: Slide furniture into designated work areas. * Reach / Handle: Repetitive motions (pinching and pulling). * Environment: Indoors, environmentally controlled – 100%. * Tool Usage: Required to use staple gun, staple puller, regulator and scissors the entire shift. * Automation: Scissor lift for positioning. * Near Acuity: Requires close vision of less than 3 feet, with or without corrective lenses, for                precision.   General sign-off: The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies and to act as a role model in the adherence to policies. Monday - Friday; 6:30am to 3:00pm (With Mandatory Overtme)
