Description
Technology:
The Starwood Capital technology team runs the firm’s IT operations, including hardware, software and networking. The team plans, builds and supports the business applications that help people across the firm do their work efficiently and securely. More and more of that work uses AI agents: systems built on large language models that can reason, use tools and complete multi-step tasks for business users.
About the Role:
The intern will join the Global Technology team and help design, build and test AI agents and automations used in real business workflows at a global real estate investment firm. Projects will cover asset classes such as multifamily, office, hospitality and development, and will focus on data, analytics and process automation.
The program is built for learning. Interns will be paired with a mentor, meet regularly for coaching and code reviews, and take on more ownership as they build skills. No one expects you to arrive as an expert in agentic AI. We care more about curiosity, good judgment and a willingness to experiment and learn from what doesn’t work.
Responsibilities:
Help build and prototype AI agents and workflows that automate business processes, such as document review, data extraction, reporting and research
Connect agents to internal data sources, APIs and business applications
Write and refine prompts, tool definitions and agent instructions, and learn the best practices for reliable agent behavior
Help build evaluations and test cases that measure agent accuracy, find failure modes and support issue resolution
Work with business stakeholders to understand their workflows, find automation opportunities and gather feedback on what you build
Document agent designs, guardrails and usage guides; create presentations and demos for technical and non-technical audiences
Attend team and project meetings, join code and design reviews, and contribute ideas to project teams
Learn and apply the firm’s standards for data security, privacy and responsible AI use
What You’ll Learn:
How to design, build, evaluate and deploy AI agents in an enterprise setting
Prompt and context engineering, tool use and multi-step agent workflows
How technology supports investment and operations work at a global real estate firm
Professional software practices: version control, code review, testing and documentation
How to scope problems with business users and turn their needs into working solutions
Requirements:
Must be a 2028 college graduate
Preferably majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Quantitative Finance or a related field
Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript or C#)
Strong interest in AI and LLMs, shown through coursework, personal projects, hackathons or self-directed learning
Exceptional attention to detail and an analytical, problem-solving mindset
Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
Comfortable with ambiguity, receptive to feedback and eager to learn quickly
Nice to Have (not required):
Experience with LLM APIs or agent frameworks (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, LangChain, MCP)
Full-stack software or data development experience
Familiarity with SQL, APIs, cloud platforms or Git
Interest in real estate, finance or investment management
Compensation: $33.65-$52.88 per hour
