- The Third Engineer is responsible to the second Engineer for:· Maintaining an engine room watch/UMS duty engineer as required· Maintaining all plant and paying particular attention to the main propulsion engines, auxiliary engines and boilers· Adopting safe working practices onboard· In the absence of an Electrical Officer onboard undertake electrical maintenance, including the completion of all PMS items in ShipSure· Understudying the Second Engineer whenever opportunities arise · Undertaking any other tasks, duties as instructed by the chief Engineer and/or Second Engineer
