The purpose of this classification is to provide specialized administrative support for a department or large division. While the essential functions are similar to those of Administrative Assistants,
Administrative Specialists typically focus more narrowly on one or more aspects of the work, and
are thus more limited in scope, whereas Administrative Assistants are broadly responsible for all administrative support functions in a department or large division; Administrative Specialists may be more broadly responsible for the administrative support functions of a smaller division. Work often requires a knowledge of departmental operations and procedures, but can be learned by a modest amount of time in the job.
