Make an Impact in Just 90 Minutes a Day!
Are you creative, energetic, and passionate about sharing a skill or hobby with elementary kids? We are looking for engaging Specialty Instructors to lead fun, hands-on enrichment classes for Kindergarten through 5th-grade students at Red Mountain Elementary.
This is an ideal role for college students, educators, retirees, or passionate hobbyists looking for a light, rewarding, and high-impact schedule.
Program Sessions Available
Instructors can teach for a single session, multiple sessions, or the rest of the school year. We are currently hiring for the following upcoming sessions:
Session 3: January 4 - March 5
Session 4: March 15 - May 21
How the Afternoon Works
Our specialty classes take place right on the Red Mountain Elementary campus immediately after the school day ends.
3:30 PM - 4:00 PM (Instructor Arrival and Setup): You arrive on site with 30 minutes of prep time to set up your room, organize your materials, and get ready for the lesson. During this time, students finish their regular school day at 3:30 PM, head to the on-campus Boys and Girls Club area for a snack and outdoor unwind time, and get ready for your class.
4:00 PM - 4:45 PM (Class Instruction): Students arrive at your room energized, fed, and ready to participate. You lead an engaging 45-minute lesson!
4:45 PM - 5:00 PM (Wrap-Up and Clean-Up): Class finishes, students transition to their next activity, and you spend 15 minutes packing up your materials. You are wrapped up and done by 5:00 PM.
Position Structure and Student Cohorts
Flexible Multi-Day Schedule: Teach 2 days per week (Mon through Thu options). Students register for specific days. You will work with the same dedicated cohort of students on their scheduled day(s) throughout the entire 8-to-9 week session.
Enrollment Contingency: Classes are contingent on a minimum enrollment of 13 registered students per session.
What You Can Teach (Activity Topics)
We want activities that get elementary kids genuinely excited! Instructors can choose a specialty area or suggest their own unique topic. Examples include:
Dance and Choreography: Energetic dance styles tailored for kids (e.g., hip-hop, jazz, multicultural dance, or building a group routine).
Music and Rhythm: Interactive sound exploration without complex equipment (e.g.,
bucket drumming, rhythm games, or sing-alongs).
Fitness and Mindful Movement: High-energy or centering exercise routines (e.g., Zumba Kids, youth yoga, movement-based obstacle challenges, or group stretching).
Creative Arts and Studio Crafts: Tactile expression through visual arts (e.g., air-dry clay sculpting, canvas painting, tie-dye, origami, or friendship bracelet making).
Hands-On Science and Discovery: Explosive, interactive experiments without screens (e.g., baking soda volcanoes, slime lab, solar print paper, or magnet science).
Sports Skills and Athletics: Skill-building and structured play in traditional sports (e.g., basketball drills, soccer or volleyball basics, or flag football).
LEGO and Structural Engineering: Creative building challenges using physical blocks and materials (e.g., earthquake-proof towers, marble runs, and cardboard bridge design).
Active Recreation and Playground Games: High-energy non-sport group play (e.g., capture the flag, dodgeball, tag variations, relay races, and gaga ball).
Theater, Drama and Improv: Creative performance and public speaking skills (e.g., theater games, character skits, puppet creation, and mini-plays).
Comic Book Creation and Illustration: Storytelling through visual art (e.g., character creation, comic strip panels, and superhero storyboards).
Youth Leadership and Team Building: Cooperative fun (e.g., escape-room style puzzles, team strategy games, and school-based service projects).
Strategy and Tabletop Games: Critical thinking and social sportsmanship (e.g., scrabble basics, checkers tournaments, strategy board games, and logic puzzles).
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience working with elementary-aged youth in school, childcare, camp, or recreation settings is preferred.
Strong classroom management and communication skills to keep groups engaged and organized.
Ability to plan and deliver age-appropriate, hands-on activity plans.
Must be reliable, punctual, and pass a standard background screening.
