Assists physicians by performing clinical and administrative duties under the direction of a physician. This is a cross-trained position: the Certified Medical Assistant performs core medical assistant duties (rooming patients, assisting with procedures, specimen handling, and room and equipment care) and also serves as a medical scribe, accompanying the provider into the exam room to transcribe the history and physical exam and accurately document the encounter, including symptoms, diagnoses, follow-up instructions, prescriptions, patient orders, and procedures. Administrative duties may include completing patient call-backs, outpatient referrals, appointment scheduling, and relaying biopsy or lab results under the direction of a physician. Responsibilities: Clinical Duties (Medical Assistant) Room patients, including measuring vital signs if applicable, and update medical charts (including exam notes, medication lists, allergies, and pharmacies); prepare patients for exams or procedures. Assist providers in procedures and injections as appropriately trained, including setting up biopsy trays. Disinfect and clean treatment rooms following patient exams and at the end of the day; stock assigned patient rooms daily and as needed to maintain proper inventory. Clean, wash, and sterilize equipment per the autoclave process. Collect urine samples and perform routine tests directed by the provider; prepare other specimens for testing or lab pickup. Perform biohazard maintenance: check all sharps containers (in rooms and lab) and biohazard trash cans, and replace if full. Closing duties, including setting biopsy trays for the following day. Documentation Duties (Scribe) When working in the scribe role, accompany the provider into the exam room and directly assist during consultations and examinations. Transcribe the history and physical exam and accurately document the provider's encounter with the patient, including symptoms, diagnoses, treatment plans, follow-up instructions, orders, prescriptions, and procedures, as dictated by the physician or advanced care provider, for their review and approval. Assist in placing orders for imaging, prescriptions, or referrals for review and approval by the physician or advanced care provider. Enter billing codes for review by the physician or advanced care provider. Update patient history, physical exam, and other pertinent health information. Prepare and assemble medical record documentation and charts for the physician. Anticipate the needs of the physician to ensure efficiency in a clinical setting. Coordinate with the rest of the care team (e.g., other medical assistants) so that rooming, room turnover, and procedure setup keep pace with the provider's schedule. Administrative Duties Coordinate referrals of services to and from other health care providers, acting as the liaison between a provider, his/her patients, and other medical offices. Assist with back-office duties when not directly assisting the provider with a patient, such as completing patient call-backs, outpatient referrals, appointment scheduling, clearing biopsy logs, and relaying biopsy or lab results under the direction of a physician. General Duties Communicate with patients, physicians, and all staff professionally and with respect. Maintain cleanliness of clinic areas, exam rooms, and shared office spaces (labs, break room, bathrooms). Maintain a team-centered attitude, including willingness to collaborate or provide coverage on other provider teams as necessary. Perform other clinical or non-clinical tasks as assigned by the physician, supervisors, and managers. *PSI has 5 locations. Occasionally, due to staffing needs, you must be willing to travel to any of these sites: (Sacramento, Folsom, Elk Grove, Rocklin or Vacaville).
