About T Bailey T Bailey is a heavy civil and industrial contractor based in Anacortes, Washington. We fabricate and build structural steel, field-erected tanks, and industrial coatings projects, and we are growing a continuous improvement program to make our shop safer, more consistent, and more efficient. About the role As our Continuous Improvement Specialist, you will be a hands-on problem solver who works on the shop floor and at a desk. You will lead improvement projects, turn messy shop data into clear information, and work with the people doing the job to write the standards and training that keep gains in place. You will work closely with operators, zone supervisors, shop management, engineering, and estimating. You don't need to know everything on day one. We prefer a CI or fabrication background, and we will train the right person on our methods and shop processes. What you'll do Lead improvement projects. Run small to mid-size DMAIC projects from charter to close-out: map the process, measure the baseline, find the root cause with data, and pilot fixes with the crew. Make data useful. Collect data through time studies and observation, clean up paper forms and spreadsheets, and build SPC charts and metrics for quality, delivery, and cost. Write standard work. Document how the work is done with experienced operators, then build control plans that tell people what to check, how often, and what to do when something is off. Build training. Turn standards into lesson plans, job breakdowns, and competency checks, and help supervisors deliver them on the floor. Keep it current. Update standards and training as processes change, and report progress to the CI Manager and steering committee. What you bring Working knowledge of DMAIC and basic lean tools such as process mapping, root cause analysis, and the eight wastes Strong spreadsheet skills, including cleaning up messy data Clear writing: you can turn an expert's explanation into steps someone else can follow Comfort on a fabrication shop floor and the ability to earn the trust of operators and supervisors Good organization and the ability to manage several projects at once Nice to have Six Sigma Green Belt or higher Experience with SPC and control charts Fabrication or welding background, including familiarity with weld procedure specifications Experience writing standard work, work instructions, or control plans Experience developing training, such as TWI Job Instruction Work environment This job is split between the office and the shop floor. You will regularly stand, walk, and sit, use standard office equipment, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. On the floor you will be around loud noise, welding and plasma cutting, grinding, overhead cranes, and moving equipment. You must wear the required PPE. Reasonable accommodations are available.
