Thin
Films, Intern
Role
Overview:
Intern
will get hands on experience with state-of-the-art semiconductor material deposition
using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), with an emphasis on GaN based materials. Additionally,
they will use various characterization techniques to assess the grown film’s
structural and electrical qualities. This includes, but is not limited to,
atomic force microscopy (AFM) along with Hall Effect and Lehighton
measurements.
Candidate
will be given a personalized project to work on that has the potential to
impact business decisions at MAOCM. In order to succeed in this project, they
will receive ongoing training and mentorship. This work will culminate in a
final poster presentation alongside their fellow interns.
Essential Role Functions and Responsibilities:
Thin film vapor
deposition with a focus on molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)
Assist with the operation and maintenance of various instruments used for the
post-growth analysis of semiconductor materials (Contactless Sheet
Resistivity, Hall Effect measurements, AFM)
Record,
document, and track wafers and perform post-growth analysis.
Assist
with repairs, maintenance, and general upkeep of the deposition equipment.
Required Education: Currently
enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in electrical engineering, applied
physics, materials engineering or mechanical engineering, and at least in their
3rd year of college study.
Preferred Skillset: Experience
with any of the following is highly desired:
Vacuum equipment
Cleanroom work
Semiconductor physics
