How You Contribute
The Focus Marriage Institute (FMI) is a department of Focus on the Family, a global Christian ministry, that helps couples restore and strengthen their marriages through Hope Restored marriage intensives and Marriage Getaway weekends. Our team leads the marketing for these programs, helping couples in crisis and couples who are drifting find the right next step, and helping pastors and church leaders know where to send the couples they care about. As an intern, you would be part of a real campaign for Hope Restored or Marriage Getaway, from the first planning conversation through launch and results, with guidance from the team along the way, helping couples take a first step toward a healthier marriage.
Responsibilities – What Does “A Day in the Life” Look Like?
In this internship, the intern may:
Build a marketing campaign for Hope Restored or Marriage Getaway from start to finish, with guidance along the way: set goals, define the audience, shape the strategy and calendar, prepare content, support the launch, and review the results
Help conduct market research on couples looking for marriage help and the places they look for it, then summarize what you find for the team
Complete competitive analysis of other marriage intensives, retreats, and counseling programs, comparing their messaging, pricing, and offers to ours
Take part in team meetings, planning sessions, and creative reviews, receive regular feedback and coaching, and learn alongside partners in Relationship Services, web, and data
Plan content and draft ideas for social posts, emails, and landing pages.
Support marketing operations and gain hands-on experience with web analytics (GA4), landing page edits (WordPress), and project management (Asana).
Share what you learned and what you would recommend with the team at the end of the internship
Goals – How Do We Want You to Learn and Grow?
Through this internship, the intern will have the opportunity to:
Learn how a marketing campaign moves from research and strategy through execution and measurement
Gain experience in market research, competitive analysis, content planning, and campaign reporting
Gain hands-on experience with digital marketing tools and see how a campaign comes together across them.
Develop skills in strategic thinking data analysis, project management, and presenting ideas
Learn how to work cross-functionally with teams including relationship services, web and data teams, outside vendors, and ministry partners such as pastors and churches, and how marketing serves a ministry mission
Grow in workplace communication, professionalism, and collaboration
Experience – What Are We Looking for in a Candidate?
Ideal candidates should have:
Pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related area
Experience or demonstrated interest in marketing, business, or research, whether through coursework, a student organization, a job, or personal projects
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, partners, vendors, and ministry constituents
A desire to learn and grow in digital marketing and campaign strategy, and openness to feedback and coaching
A writing sample or portfolio of marketing, design, or content work, if available, and references
