Independent Contractor Opportunity: Healthcare Instructional Specialist & Primary Instructor – RN (CA) Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099 / Business-to-Business Service Agreement) Client / Contracting Entity: Bryan University Location: Hayward, CA (Classroom/Skills Lab facilities and CDPH-approved regional clinical partner sites across the East Bay) Compensation Structure: $55.00 – $75.00 per billable instructional hour (or negotiated fixed milestone/cohort completion rate; commensurate with CDPH instructor approvals, clinical expertise, and business credentials) Term: Defined Cohort Contract (typically 6–10 weeks per cohort cycle; renewable upon mutual agreement) Engagement Overview Bryan University, with the oversight of the Caregiver Training Institute, seeks an established, independent healthcare education professional or professionally qualified nurse to deliver expert instructional and clinical assessment services as an Independent Primary Instructor – RN. The contractor will provide turnkey educational delivery and clinical competency verification for cohorts enrolled in California Department of Public Health (CDPH) approved Nurse Assistant Training Programs (NATP) and allied caregiving modules. Services encompass classroom theory instruction, hands-on clinical lab simulation, and on-site clinical rotation oversight at contracted healthcare facilities in accordance with California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22. Scope of Services & Key Deliverables The contractor operates autonomously regarding instructional delivery methods, pacing, and professional technique, subject strictly to CDPH regulatory requirements and curriculum standards: CDPH Curriculum Execution: Deliver the approved 160-hour California NATP curriculum (60 hours classroom/theory, 100 hours clinical training) ensuring all state-mandated competencies—including the mandatory 16-hour pre-clinical core—are thoroughly instructed. Clinical Competency Evaluation: Supervise, evaluate, and independently verify student clinical performance during partner-site rotations; complete and execute all CDPH Individual Student Performance Records (Form CDPH 283 A/B) and required clinical skill sign-offs. Audit-Ready Documentation: Compile, verify, and submit complete cohort records (daily attendance logs, skills checklists, exam score rosters, and remediation records) meeting CDPH and institutional compliance audit standards at the conclusion of each instructional module. Learning Environment Management: Exercise professional discretion in managing student group dynamics, clinical floor safety, infection control compliance, and adherence to facility partner rules. Contractor Qualifications & Requirements To comply with CDPH Title 22 faculty standards and California independent contractor qualification criteria (California Labor Code § 2776 / AB 5), prospective contractors must demonstrate the following: Professional & Statutory Credentials: Active RN Licensure: Valid, current, and unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Contractor Compliance Requirements: Because this engagement is structured as a bona fide independent contractor relationship, the contractor must satisfy the following: Business Structure: Must operate as an established business entity (LLC, S-Corporation, C-Corporation, or registered sole proprietorship with a Federal Employer Identification Number [FEIN]). Local Licensing: Must maintain a valid municipal business license or tax registration certificate (City of Hayward or local jurisdiction of business registration). Tools & Equipment: Contractor provides their own computer hardware, stethoscope, personal protective equipment (PPE), and professional instructional aids. Open Market Operations: Contractor retains the unrestricted right to market services, contract with other vocational schools or healthcare facilities, and determine their availability for project cohorts. Bryan University will issue an annual IRS Form 1099-NEC. No state or federal tax withholdings, FICA, or SUI will be deducted. No Benefits: This is not an offer of employment. The contractor is ineligible for employee benefits, including paid leave, health/welfare plans, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, or retirement contributions.
