The American Heritage Center (AHC) is responsible for maintaining the
University's Archives, and for collecting, preserving, and disseminating the
historical documentation of select aspects of cultural heritage at the local,
state, national, and even international levels. Our mission is to support the
administrative and educational curriculum of the University by enabling
historical research and interpretation across a broad spectrum of interests and
disciplines. We meet these mandates through acquisition, stewardship,
accessibility, service, instruction, exhibition, outreach, digitization, and
collaborative programmatic activities.
JOB TITLE:
University of Wyoming Archives Internship
JOB PURPOSE:
Work with University Archives material documenting the history of the University
Wyoming by arranging and describing records of the University of Wyoming
Archives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize archival materials which may include paper, photographic, audio-visual,
and digital documents; create catalog records, descriptive content lists, and
finding aids to be posted online. Work with the University Archivist on special
projects as needed. Lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs with or without
reasonable accommodations.
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS APPLICABLE TO CAREERS:
The opportunity to learn about archival practices and theories and gain real
work experience in the archives profession.
Training will be provided, and interns will gain skills relevant to work in
archival, cultural heritage, and museum environments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at the University of
Wyoming.
Experience:
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, performing them in a
relatively short period of time.
* Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written format.
* Computer, software, and writing skills commensurate with the creation of
college level class assignments.
* Attention to detail and the ability to analyze and describe collection
contents to provide suitable finding aids.
* Physically capable of moving large numbers of boxes weighing 25lbs to 75lbs
and dealing with dust, dirt, and other potential allergens, with or without
reasonable accommodations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Interest in modern history, archives, museums, and libraries
* Knowledge of archives theory and practice.

WORK LOCATION:
On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the
successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job
functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea
level.
