About the company

Ayar Labs

Computer Hardware Manufacturing · 51 to 200 employees

Ayar Labs is transforming AI infrastructure by accelerating data movement. Recognizing that the complexity and size of AI models are increasing at a rate that traditional interconnect technology cannot handle, the company has developed the industry’s first co-packaged optics (CPO) solution that enables customers to maximize the compute efficiency and performance of growing AI infrastructure, while reducing costs, latency and power consumption. Based on open standards and optimized for both AI training and inference, Ayar Labs’ optical I/O solution is backed by a robust ecosystem that enables it to integrate smoothly into AI systems at scale.

Intern, Module Validation Term: May to August 2027 Please note: * Position location is on-site in San Jose Office * There is no immigration (except F1) or relocation support for this position * Posting expires upon application threshold  Position Description Ayar Labs, the global leader in optical I/O chiplets, is harnessing silicon photonics to revolutionize the scaling of AI compute hardware. Ayar Labs is shattering AI data bottlenecks by moving data at the speed of light. As pioneers of co-packaged optics (CPO), we are using light instead of electricity to move data faster, further, and with a fraction of the energy needed to fuel the explosive growth of AI models. Backed by industry giants like NVIDIA, AMD and Intel and manufactured in partnership with the world’s leading semiconductor ecosystem, Ayar Labs’ co-packaged optics solution is key to unleashing next-generation AI scale-up architectures.  We are looking for a highly motivated graduate intern to join our laser validation group within the Laser development team, where you will inspect the conformance to the specification and explore the limits of the laser module in operation. Projects are tailored to your experience and interests and you will be mentored by a senior engineer alongside a highly experienced engineering team developing the laser source product. You will execute tests and experiments needed to pass the laser module through the next product development gate. You will test production parts and subject them to validation tests - thorough investigation if these conform to the required specification and testing them beyond the required range of operation to see if the module performance in volume is stable. You will support test and validation of engineering modules including alternative laser sources and modules produced within development projects.  You will help with instrumental and mechanical set up modifications per individual test requirements. These will include mechanical and optical alignment, data acquisition software optimizations and data analysis. Intern Skillset Needed * Completed basic course structure in physics/engineering preferably including electrodynamics, calculus, solid state physics, optics or laser related areas. * Strong programming skill in Python. * Preferred experience working in a research lab, performing tests and optoelectronic test set ups. * Independently working, motivated candidate with ability to complete assigned projects.  Education Requirements * Candidate should be actively pursuing M.S. or Ph.D in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or Optics NOTE TO RECRUITERS: Principals only. We are not accepting resumes from recruiters for this position. Remuneration for recruiting activities is only applicable subject to a signed and executed agreement between the parties. Please don’t send candidates to Ayar Labs, and do not contact our managers.
