About the company

ASML

Semiconductor Manufacturing · 10,001+ employees

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?

While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.

If you love to tackle challenges and innovate in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment with all the flexibility and freedom to unleash your full potential, ASML is the place to be.

Internship - Machine Learning and image-based metrics for EUV system setup Introduction ASML US, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon. Your Assignment In ASML EUV Light Sources, high power lasers interact with Sn material to create the Plasma that generates EUV light. Achieving the correct alignment between the lasers and the Sn material is essential for efficient and stable operation. High-speed camera images captured during EUV formation contain valuable spatial information about this interaction. Your goal will be to develop image-based Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) that describe the alignment between lasers and Sn material. . Key Idea and Deliverables You will apply machine learning, and image analysis techniques to high-speed images collected during controlled experiments. The objective is to identify image characteristics that reliably indicate good laser-to-Sn alignment, and translate them into simple, measurable KPIs. The project will involve: Collecting and organizing high-speed image data from controlled experiments Extract relevant image features using a mix of conventional image-processing techniques and/or explore ML/AI methods Develop one or more image-based KPIs that summarize the relevant information Validate the propose KPIs against performance measurements, and their robustness across different operating conditions Success Criteria Identification of image-based KPIs that show clear, repeatable trends with laser and Sn material alignment quality and demonstrate improved observability compared to current methodology in use on EUV sources. . Your Profile · Must be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, control systems, physics, applied mathematics, or a related technical field. · Knowledge or experience using Python for data analysis. · Familiar with ML/AI-based image analysis methods. · Ability to analyze technical data and communicate findings and recommendations. Skills Working at the cutting edge of tech, you will always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way do that. You will not work in a silo. Instead, you will be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you will collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You will have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems. To thrive in this job, you will need the following skills: Analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work with image datasets and corresponding metadata Ability to apply clustering, dimensionality reduction, or supervised learning methods Ability to work independently and collaborate with technical stakeholders Clear written and verbal communication · Attention to detail and accuracy · Ability to document analysis in scripts, notebooks, and technical reports · Ability to learn new technical concepts and methods · Result-oriented approach · Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite programs Other Information · This position is located on-site in San Diego, California. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation. · Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach and stretch · Occasionally required to move around the campus · Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds · Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus · Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift Potential candidates will meet the education and experience requirements provided on the above job description and excel in completing the listed responsibilities for this role.
