Junior Software Engineer
Are you tired of support roles where you just follow scripts and never touch real code? As a Junior Software Engineer at BodySpec, you’re part of our engineering team from day one. You’ll troubleshoot real technical problems, maintain and extend the tools our team and customers rely on, and learn to make design decisions that hold up as we scale. You’ll start close to our users, handling support and fixes, with a clear path to owning bigger pieces of our systems as you grow.
First-year Junior Software Engineers in Austin can expect to earn up to $70,170 in total cash compensation, plus equity.
You'll Love This Job If You Have:
Technical Curiosity: You want to understand how systems actually work, not just restart them when they break. You dig into logs, trace errors, and don’t stop until you find the root cause.
Systems Thinking: You know writing code is the easy part now, because AI tools draft a lot of it. What matters is deciding what to build and how it fits. You think about where a change lives, what it might break, who maintains it, and whether it makes sense for the business, not just whether it runs.
Ownership: You close the loop. When you fix something, you write it up, and if it’s happened twice, you automate it so it doesn’t happen a third time. You don’t wait to be told to do the obvious next step.
Communication Clarity: You can explain technical problems to non-technical people without talking down to them, and you write up issues and decisions so your teammates don’t waste time. Your Slack messages are clear, concise, and actionable.
Knowing When to Ask: You know when to keep digging and when to ask a teammate. You don’t ping someone the moment you’re stuck, but you also don’t burn a day on something a five-minute conversation would solve. And you never sit on a critical issue trying to be a hero.
Patience Without Passivity: You stay calm with frustrated users and stakeholders, but you’re not a pushover. No ticket is beneath you, and you push for real fixes, not just band-aids.
