As a Medical Office Specialist, you will be responsible for greeting patients who come in the door, checking them in. You will also answer phone calls and direct them to the appropriate place, email or fax documentation to the appropriate offices, and maintain excellent medical and correspondence records, as appropriate. The ideal candidate is very organized, has strong customer service and interpersonal skills, and works well independently and within a team. Responsibilities Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person and over the phone. Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette. Responsible for keeping the office area clean and organized at all times. Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information. Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients' arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and physicians/practitioners. Responds to inquiries by patients, prospective patients, and visitors in a courteous manner. Keeps medical office supplies adequately stocked by anticipating inventory needs, placing orders, and monitoring office equipment. Protects patient confidentiality, making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended. Maintaining medical records, both in paper and electronic form. Prepares superbills for third-party billing/claim submissions and maintains account balancing and recording of patient payments and other patient financial responsibilities. Completes insurance eligibility Qualifications Strong customer service skills Excellent organizational skills Attention to detail Familiarity with basic computer programs, such as the Microsoft Office suite Previous office experience desired
