Nurse Extern- Clinical Decision Unit Job Code: NU1060 ABOUT US Full- time - Days or nights Available Requirements Must be a nursing student entering their last year of nursing school with a graduation date between December 2027- May 2028. Important Dates Application Submission: Opens November1st 2026 Closes: January 15 th 2027 Program Duration: 8 Weeks, Beginning June 14 th 2027, Ending August 7 st 2027 Schedule 36-40 hours, three, 12-hour shifts a week following orientation. Candidates must have the flexibility to work either day or night shifts to match the schedule of the preceptor they are paired with. JOB TYPE Classification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: JOB SUMMARY Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting. • Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization. Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedures to promote patient health and wellness. • Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care. • Performs administrative support functions. • Maintains necessary skills and competencies. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Currently enrolled student nurses who graduate December of 2027-May 2028. BSN students who have completed their 3rd year; ASN students who have completed their 1st year. Students may remain employed as a Nurse Extern until graduation completion. Following graduation and board completion they will need to apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.
