About the company
Base Power
Utilities · 2 to 10 employees
Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
What you'll do
- Own relationships with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs), test labs, and standards bodies.
- Build compliance into product requirements early, so engineering designs to the standard from day one.
- Interpret, and when needed challenge, how standards apply across battery, inverter, and solar products.
- Plan and run certification programs: test plans, setup, execution, and data analysis.
- Review and approve hardware and system designs for compliance.
- Work with firmware and controls engineers so software behavior supports certification.
- Track new and changing standards, flag roadmap impact, and represent Base in working groups.
- Be the internal expert on NEC and UL requirements.
- Document processes, findings, and gaps so we stay audit-ready.
- WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience taking a grid-tied product from concept through full certification.
- Deep working knowledge of UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, and IEEE 1547.
- Strong grasp of the NEC as it applies to energy storage and distributed energy resources.
- Ability to turn standards language into clear engineering requirements.
- Confidence pushing back on overly conservative interpretations of a standard.
