Robot Software Engineer Internship

About the Role As a Robot Software Engineer Intern, you'll work on the software foundation that keeps our robots running. You'll own real projects on the software platform stack: ranging from on-robot software, networking and communication infrastructure, data collection pipelines, telemetry, teleoperation, inference infra, developer tooling etc., and see your impact run on physical robots by the end of your internship. You'll sit with the engineers who build our robots and ship code that the team depends on every day. What You'll Do Contribute to the networking and communication infrastructure connecting onboard robot systems to each other, to the cloud, and to teleoperation and monitoring systems Help build data collection pipelines that capture sensor, telemetry, and behavioral data from the robot and upload it reliably to cloud storage for model training Work on telemetry and observability systems that give the team real-time visibility into robot health and field performance Build internal tooling that accelerates robot software development: deployment pipelines, logging, debugging tools, and field testing utilities Support bring-up and field testing on live hardware, debugging issues across the onboard software stack Collaborate with ML, perception, and control engineers to keep onboard systems reliable and training data high quality Automate internal workflows to improve execution efficiency of the Rhoda teams What We're Looking For Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field — or a recent graduate Solid computer science foundation: data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and networking Genuine passion for working on robots — coursework, research, personal projects, competition teams, or internships all count Strong programming skills in C++, Python, Golang, or Rust Curiosity and comfort working with physical hardware in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment Ability to debug across layers, from driver-level issues up to application behavior Open to learn new things and grow from knowing nothing to an expert on arbitrary technical topics Nice to Have (But Not Required) Experience with bringing up & manipulating robots Familiarity with networking, IPC, or communication protocols (e.g. gRPC, DDS, QUIC, WebSockets) Exposure to cloud storage and data pipelines (AWS, GCP, S3, GCS) Experience with perception pipelines, control systems, or learned models running on real-time robot stacks Prior work on prototype or pre-production hardware Why This Role Your work is the connective tissue of the robot — the networking, data, and tooling infrastructure that determines how fast the team can develop and improve our humanoids in the field Work across the full onboard stack alongside perception, control, and ML engineers & researchers on a platform pushing the frontier of humanoid robotics Real ownership on a small team, with your code running on real robots — not a side project on the shelf
