Seed & Green Goods Buyer

Join the team at J.W. Jung Seed Company, an industry leader in mail-order and retail gardening. With six garden centers across Wisconsin, Jung Seed Company ships thousands of quality seeds, plants, and gardening accessories to all 50 states. The Seed & Green Goods Buyer sources, purchases, and manages the supply of seed and green goods to support the company’s product offerings, production needs, and customer demand. This position develops and maintains supplier relationships, negotiates pricing and terms, forecasts product needs, manages inventory levels, evaluates new varieties and products, and ensures products are purchased at the appropriate quality, quantity, cost, and timing. Key Responsibilities Source and purchase seeds, including vegetable, flower, herb, and other garden seed varieties, based on company needs Source and purchase green goods, including annuals, perennials, and other live plant material as applicable Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors Work with suppliers to determine product availability, pricing, quantities, and delivery schedules Obtain and compare supplier pricing, availability, minimum order quantities, freight costs, and terms Place orders and maintain accurate purchasing records Monitor supplier lead times and ensure products arrive according to seasonal and operational requirements Coordinate orders, substitutions, cancellations, crop availability, and other factors that may affect supply Maintain the company’s MOSA certification and ensure purchasing practices, supplier documentation, product sourcing, and recordkeeping remain compliant with applicable organic certification requirements Other duties as assigned Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Strong understanding of basic mathematical concepts Strong communication and collaboration skills Strong attention to detail Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability in a fast-paced environment Basic computer proficiency Willingness to learn and grow with the company Why Join Jung Seed Co.?
