Summer 2027 Civil Engineering Intern

The Internship Program at NorthStar was built with the intern and permanent staff in mind to accomplish two major goals 1) build experience and exposure to problem solving procedures and practices, and 2) assist staff with project tasks, allowing for mentorship opportunities. Internship - We are seeking an Intern who is ready to be on the track to develop as an engineer and play a significant role in our growing Civil Team in Chico CA. NorthStar’s Civil team is comprised of talented professionals working to better our communities through inspired design. Fulfilling Projects - NorthStar is proud to partner with both public and private sector clients. We have done work for a range of clients in multiple industries: City and County Agencies, Construction Companies, Schools, Native American Tribes, Non-profit Organizations, Health Care Entities, Utility Companies, Local Developers, and Small Businesses. Essential Functions: The Intern should be highly efficient, organized, and have a desire to develop themselves as an engineer. Provide experiences that get you ready for a position in your field of study by developing skills to work within that field as well as the exposure to work with complementary fields. Assist in the preparation of applications and documents under direct supervision of others Assist with soils testing, surveying, CAD drafting, and basic design under the direct supervision of others Acquire experience, skills, and education as necessary to advance Build experience and exposure to problem solving procedures and practices What you must have to apply: A student currently enrolled as a Junior or above in an ABET accredited college or university with a focus in engineering coursework No experience is required for this position Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills Excellent time management, prioritization, and organization skills Possession of valid California Driver’s License and clear DMV Report What we prefer you have: Proficiency with the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD - Civil 3D, and civil software is desirable. Enrolled or has completed CSU Surveying (Civil 130), Transportation Planning, Surveying & Graphics (Civil 140), Fluid Mechanics (Civil 321), Soil Mechanics (Civil 411) or equivalent is desirable Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of an effective team Compensation and Benefits: Pay Rate – $25.00 to $30.77 based on relevant experience Opportunities: Our internship meets the requirements of CIVL 389 Civil Engineering Internship, and we can assist in documentation as necessary Eligible for Assistant Technician position or above after the intern term has been completed Valued member of a collaborative team with a voice in a growing Civil Engineering department Equal Opportunity Employer The information provided in this job posting is a summary of the full job description and is intended to provide an overview of areas of responsibility, skills, knowledge, and abilities associated with the position.
