Summary
Summer Internship Program – Academy Bank’s Summer Internship offers students pursuing business-related degrees hands-on experience in banking. Interns complete meaningful projects, participate in professional development training, and present a business research project to senior leadership. The program provides valuable career experience and potential opportunities for future full-time employment at the Bank’s Kansas City headquarters.
General
Term of Internship: 8 weeks starting the first week of June and ending the last week of July.
Full-time, 32-hour work week.
Monday through Thursday schedule (9:00-5:00 or 8:30-4:30), excluding the Juneteenth and Independence Day paid holidays.
Hourly rate of $18.00 per hour.
All interns will perform real work in the assigned department, research and present on a real-work issue facing the banking industry and participate in a professionalism series that focuses on skills necessary to succeed in a professional environment, such as communication, etiquette, personal branding, and interviewing skills.
Department Assignments
Interns will be assigned to one of the Banks headquarter departments based on the needs and intern candidates’ skillset. We anticipate assigning summer interns to the following work:
Credit – The Credit department supports Commercial Banking by evaluating the creditworthiness of current and prospective business clients while ensuring compliance with the Bank's credit policies. Team members analyze financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, and other business records, partnering closely with commercial bankers to meet client needs. Interns gain exposure to commercial banking through activities such as spreading financial statements, researching industry data, and conducting background and news searches on potential borrowers and guarantors. By the end of the internship, they will have a foundational understanding of commercial banking and its career opportunities.
Support & Risk Departments – Interns may work in areas such as Data Analytics, Finance, IT, Compliance, Operations, Marketing, or Financial Intelligence, depending on business needs and experience. These teams support the safe and effective operation of the Bank through data, technology, processes, and risk management. Strong candidates have analytical skills, are proficient in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI, and work well collaboratively. Daily responsibilities may include data analysis, database research, reporting, and compliance-related activities. By the end of the internship, participants will gain a foundational understanding of banking operations, risk management, and data-driven decision-making.
