Reporting to the Assistant Controller, this position is responsible for performing a variety of general accounting support tasks, including but not limited to journal entry processing; supporting the month- and year-end close process, performing account reconciliations, filing various business and tax reports, assisting with the preparation of GAAP compliant financial statements, and providing support for the annual assurance and tax return engagements with our outside accounting firm. The Staff Accountant must be able to meet strict deadlines as well as collaborate with others to achieve ongoing improvements and best practices for the finance department. Supports and adheres to the Cancer Care Northwest Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities For two to three companies: Prepare and enter journal entries as well as all bank activity. Approve accounts payable batch runs. Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts. Assist with month-end closing tasks. Maintain fixed asset schedules and related depreciation. Determine accruals and prepaids. Use inventory counts to determine ending inventory and cost of goods sold. Generate amortization schedules and maintain appropriate short-term/long-term classifications for company debt. Use data from payroll software to book payroll and related tax entries. Assist in preparation of financial statements and related reports. Calculate and file monthly B&O tax reports. Assist with annual review, compilation and tax return engagements in collaboration with the Assistant Controller and outside accounting firm. File personal property tax reports. Keep business license filings up to date. Investigate questionable data and recommend actions to resolve discrepancies. Proactively problem solve by identifying causes of issue, obtaining full understanding and documenting appropriately after remediation. Collaborate with peers, management, and outside companies to achieve continuous improvements and best practices for the department. Maintain strict confidentiality. Perform all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Understanding of accrual based accounting Ability to process functions and formulas (VLOOKUP, SUMIF and pivot tables) in Microsoft Excel Strong attention to detail and analytical skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills It is preferred an individual have: One to three years’ general accounting experience Sage 100 experience Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to: Regularly: sit, grasp, reach, talk, and hear Occasionally: stand, bend, stoop/crouch, walk, lift up to 30 pounds, pull/push up to 30 pounds, and carry up to 30 pounds Vision: clearly see up to 5 feet with or without corrective lenses Workplace Environmental Conditions While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will not be exposed to any workplace environmental conditions caused by extreme noise, heat, cold, workplace hazards, atmospheric dust/fumes/vapors/mists, pathogens, or toxic chemicals.
