And so much more.​      ​Come break through with us.   The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.  Role Purpose The Chemical Engineering Intern will work directly with engineers to learn optical coating processes and support projects within the optical coating engineering team. This role offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment and includes formal project reviews presented to division leadership. The intern will also gain exposure to optical thin-film coating terminology and processes, including coating chambers, deposition processes, process parameters, uniformity, adhesion, reflectance and transmittance performance, yield, defects, and basic troubleshooting methods used in a manufacturing environment.   Program Perks: Competitive salaries Assistance with housing and travel Meaningful project and final project presentation   Intern Activities: Social and networking opportunities Weekly tech talks Community involvement Key Responsibilities Support projects within the optical coating department Work closely with coating engineers to develop an understanding of optical coating processes Interact daily with plant operations teams in coating areas and chambers Assist with coating run review, process monitoring, data collection, and documentation of observations or improvement opportunities Assist with process-related experiments designed to build fundamental understanding of process problems Participate in the planning, execution, and reflection phases of experimental activities Analyze data and provide support for process improvement efforts Prepare and deliver updates and formal presentations to engineering and leadership teams Experiences/Education Currently pursuing a Chemical Engineering degree Rising Junior or Senior status, preferred Required Skills Motivated self-starter with an independent learning style Basic understanding of manufacturing environments, process flow, or production support systems Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Experience with data analysis, including Microsoft Excel and SPC rules Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and contribute as an individual Desired Skills Exposure to or interest in thin-film coatings, vacuum systems, coating chambers, process controls, material properties, optical measurements, or manufacturing troubleshooting Strong chemical engineering and quantitative problem-solving skills Coursework in engineering statistics or other statistical training Technical writing skills Ability to deliver technical presentations to operators, engineers, and managers Innovative, technically curious, and results-oriented High level of commitment and accountability   This position does not support immigration sponsorship.     ​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school. ​ A job that shapes a life.     We prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, veteran status or any other legally protected status.   Corning is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and considers requests for reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable laws.
