About the company

Rusin Concrete Construction

Construction · 201 to 500 employees

Rusin Concrete began in Colorado Springs in 1997 with a simple belief: concrete work should be done with craftsmanship, integrity, and a level of professionalism that builders can count on. What started as a small, hands-on operation has grown into one of the region’s most trusted concrete partners, serving commercial General Contractors, Residential Builders, and Homeowners across the Front Range. As our team has grown, so has the range of what we deliver. Residential or Commercial. A single foundation or an entire development. A small slab or a complex structural pour. Whatever the project, we bring the same commitment to quality, communication, and craftsmanship, because the size of the job never changes the standard of the work.

The Commercial Project Engineer owns preparation, tracking, and follow-through for assigned project controls, procurement documents, and project information under a designated supervising Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. The Project Engineer prepares all project purchase orders and subcontracts for the responsible PM’s review and approval and keeps information and materials moving ahead of field needs. The responsible PM retains accountability for project results, forecasts, approvals, and commercial decisions. Duties and Responsibilities • Understand assigned estimates, contract documents, scope, exclusions, and project schedules. Participate in turnover and planning meetings with the Project Manager and field leadership. • Review drawings and specifications for completeness, coordination, and constructability. Prepare and track requests for information (RFIs) under the Project Manager’s direction. • Own current RFI, submittal, procurement, drawing revision, and change-documentation logs for assigned projects. Record responsible parties and required dates; follow up and escalate overdue items before they affect field work. • Review reinforcing steel, post-tensioning, concrete mix design, and formwork submittals for conformance with project requirements. Coordinate required reviews, approvals, and distribution. • Maintain current drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and revisions in Procore as implemented, using company systems during transition. Communicate changes and confirm field teams have current information. • Prepare all project purchase orders and subcontracts using company templates, including scope, quantities, pricing, supporting quotes, and required documents. Route each package to the responsible PM or Senior PM for review and approval before issuance; do not independently approve commitments. • Track procurement packages through review, approval, authorized issuance, fabrication, release, and delivery. Follow up on missing information and overdue approvals; confirm current documents, approved submittals, and materials are ready before affected work starts. • Assist field leaders with interpretation of drawings and specifications. Coordinate technical questions with the Project Manager and design team; do not independently authorize design changes. • Collect installed quantities, labor and production information, material records, and delivery tickets. Support cost reviews and forecast preparation; flag discrepancies to the Project Manager. • Assemble change quantities, pricing, photographs, daily records, and time-and-material backup. Track missing signatures and supporting documents for Project Manager review and follow-up. • Maintain correspondence, meeting minutes, action lists, inspection and testing records, and photographs using consistent company processes. Track each assigned item through completion, document its status, and escalate unresolved items before they affect commitments. • Assist with billing quantities, as-built records, punch lists, warranties, and closeout documents. Coordinate responsibilities with any assigned Field Engineer to avoid gaps or duplicate work. • Support safety and quality requirements during site visits, promptly report concerns, and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant construction experience. • Construction internship, project coordination, or field experience preferred; commercial concrete experience is beneficial. • Ability to read drawings and specifications and develop knowledge of reinforcing steel, post-tensioning, formwork, concrete mix designs, and construction sequencing. • Strong organization, attention to detail, written and verbal communication, and ability to manage due dates across assigned projects. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Procore and Bluebeam experience preferred. Ability to learn company project controls and accounting workflows. • Ability to own preparation and follow-through, maintain consistent processes across projects, ask timely questions, recognize limits of authority, and escalate issues before they delay work. • Commitment to safety, quality, ethical conduct, and Rusin’s Core Values; valid driver’s license and driving record meeting company requirements. Physical Requirements Work includes office activities and visits to active construction sites. Must be able to navigate uneven ground and access work areas, including stairs or ladders as required. Site visits may involve standing, walking, bending, reaching, and exposure to weather, noise, dust, and operating equipment. Occasional lifting or moving of materials or equipment up to 50 pounds may be required. Essential duties may be performed with reasonable accommodation.
