Department Summary: The N558 department provides multidisciplinary systems and mission engineering for U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), and their subordinate commands. Roles & Responsibilities: As a Computer and Data Science Intern in Omaha, you will work with a team of experts supporting complex technical and operational challenges. Support software development for data analysis, visualizations, or modeling and simulations. Apply knowledge in data science, computer science, mathematics, operations research, or related disciplines to real-world problems. Assist with AI/ML research efforts. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams that may include software engineers, data scientists, experiment designers, domain experts, and other technical staff. Present findings, prototypes, or technical work products to teammates and stakeholders Basic Qualifications: Sustained excellence in academic performance. Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship. Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top-Secret security Clearance. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated interest in serving the public. Experience applying computer science or data science learning to an internship, research, or lab setting. Knowledge of STRATCOM, NORAD/NORTHCOM, and SOUTHCOM missions. Hands-on software development skills in a modern programming language (e.g. Python) Working knowledge of data science workflow from data acquisition to reporting findings. Experience in any of the following areas: AI/ML, software development and debugging, cybersecurity, communication networks, operations research, data science/analysis. Currently possess or is eligible for a TS/SCI clearance. Clearance: In addition to passing MITRE’s employment background check, you may be submitted for a U.S. Government Security clearance. This is determined by the Department of Defense’s adjudicative guidelines for receiving a clearance, to include U.S. citizenship.
