Description

Work Setting:  In-person (All in office/field) 25% office/ 75% Field Hazen and Sawyer is seeking motivated, curious, and team-oriented student to join our Construction Management team in Tempe and throughout the Phoenix metropolitan for the summer of 2027 (flexible dates). This internship provides hands-on experience supporting the construction of critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects while working alongside experienced construction managers, engineers, and inspectors. Interns will assist with field observations, project coordination, documentation, and construction administration activities, gaining valuable exposure to all phases of project delivery. As part of the nation's leading water and wastewater engineering firm, interns will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that improve communities while developing the technical and professional skills needed for a successful career in construction management. Why Hazen and Sawyer: * Founded in 1951 by the son of Allen Hazen (developer of the Hazen-Williams equation), we are an employee-owned company with a singular focus on "all things water." * Our work includes planning, design, and oversight of construction of environmental infrastructure – for water, wastewater, and stormwater management. * We foster a work environment low on bureaucracy and high in creativity. * We recruit talented professionals, provide them with challenging, interesting, and creative assignments, and furnish them with the tools they need to succeed. * We currently have over 2,400 employees in 100+ offices throughout the United States, Latin America, Canada, and the UK.  Key Responsibilities: * Assist Construction Managers with daily project oversight and coordination activities. * Participate in site visits and field inspections to observe construction progress and verify compliance with plans and specifications. * Review contractor submittals, schedules, and project documentation. * Support quality assurance and quality control efforts during construction. * Attend project meetings and assist with meeting documentation and action item tracking. * Monitor construction activities and help maintain project records, reports, and correspondence. * Collaborate with engineers, contractors, utility owners, and municipal staff. * Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list development and documentation review. * Follow and promote workplace safety policies and procedures. * Maintain construction inspection and testing related documentation. Required Qualifications: * Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. * Strong interest in construction management and infrastructure development. * Excellent communication and organizational skills. * Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. * Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.  Preferred Qualifications:  * Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection preferred * B.S. degree in a Civil/Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Building/Construction Science, or an Associate Degree in Engineering Science * Junior or Senior level is preferred. * Engineer In Training (EIT) or Construction Manager In Training (CMIT - Construction Manager Certification Institute/CMCI) Certification What We Offer: * Starting pay range for this position depends on skills, experience, education and geographical location * Professional guidance and career counseling * Direct mentorship with experienced engineers * Experience with a variety of disciplines within the water industry * Exposure to the environmental consulting industry * Potential opportunity for full-time employment upon graduation
