About the role The Marketing Assistant role is a full-time position that supports Petersen's marketing team in bringing the museum's exhibitions, events, memberships, and programs to enthusiasts, collectors, families, and new audiences across Los Angeles and beyond. Working closely with the Marketing Manager and the broader team under the COO, the Marketing Assistant keeps campaigns moving: coordinating content, managing schedules and assets, supporting social media and email, and helping capture the energy of the museum's galleries, vault, and events. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role for someone early in their marketing career who wants to learn how a world-class cultural institution builds its brand and who shares a genuine curiosity about automotive culture, design, and history. What you'll do Campaign & Project Coordination Support the planning and execution of marketing campaigns for exhibitions, special events, memberships, and seasonal programming, tracking timelines, deliverables, and approvals. Maintain the marketing calendar and project trackers, keeping internal teams — Development, Collections, Retail, and Events aligned on launch dates and promotional needs. Coordinate with outside vendors, printers, and agencies on deliverables, proofs, and deadlines. Content & Digital Assist with email marketing, including building newsletters, managing audience lists, and proofing before send. Update website content, event listings, and online calendars to keep information accurate and current. Brand, Creative & Asset Management Ensure all materials reflect the Petersen's brand standards and voice across print, digital, signage, and on-site collateral. Organize and maintain the museum's library of photography, video, logos, and approved marketing assets. Route creative requests and proofs between designers, stakeholders, and leadership for review and sign-off. Events & Community Outreach Support marketing for museum events, car shows, and member programs, including on-site support as needed (some evenings and weekends). Help coordinate community listings, cross-promotions, and outreach with Los Angeles arts, culture, and tourism partners. Reporting & Administrative Support Compile campaign, email, and web performance reports, and summarize results for the marketing team. Track marketing budgets, invoices, and purchase orders in partnership with the Finance team. Provide general administrative support to the Marketing department, including meeting notes, scheduling, and file organization. Qualifications 1–2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, including internships; experience at a museum, cultural institution, nonprofit, or entertainment venue is a plus. Hands-on familiarity with social media platforms, scheduling tools, and email marketing platforms; working knowledge of a CMS such as WordPress is helpful. Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills, with a sharp eye for detail and brand consistency. Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Comfort with photo and video capture and basic editing; experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Interest in automotive history, design, and car culture strongly preferred; experience engaging enthusiast or specialty-interest communities is a plus. Availability for occasional evening and weekend events. Background in marketing, communications, business, or a related field preferred
