Details of Research Project:
The Cravedi Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to investigate mechanisms of kidney injury and develop novel strategies to improve kidney transplantation outcomes.
The candidate will work primarily with human donor kidneys undergoing ex vivo normothermic machine perfusion , a translational research platform that allows the study of organ function, injury mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions prior to transplantation. The research will focus on understanding kidney injury, inflammation, and repair, as well as testing innovative approaches to improve organ preservation and viability.
The successful candidate will design and conduct experiments involving machine-perfused human kidneys, analyze tissue and perfusate samples, and apply molecular, cellular, and histological techniques. The position offers opportunities to develop independent research projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to high-impact scientific publications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, coordinate, and conduct ex vivo normothermic machine perfusion experiments using human donor kidneys.
Develop and test therapeutic interventions aimed at improving kidney function, reducing injury, and enhancing organ preservation.
Collect and analyze kidney tissue, perfusate, and other biological samples using molecular, cellular, and histological techniques.
Perform and optimize laboratory assays, including ELISA, Western blot, qPCR, immunohistochemistry, and other relevant approaches.
Analyze and interpret experimental data, including kidney functional parameters, injury biomarkers, and molecular signatures.
Develop independent research hypotheses and contribute to experimental design and troubleshooting.
Prepare scientific manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and research reports.
Collaborate with investigators, transplant clinicians, and other research team members on multidisciplinary projects.
Mentor junior laboratory members and contribute to maintaining laboratory equipment, protocols, and research resources.
Contribute to grant applications and the development of new research initiatives.
Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
