Your Story
We're looking for a Production Intern / Gear Manager who's passionate about filmmaking, technically curious, and excited to get hands-on experience making great films.
Story produces high-end commercial and branded content for some of the world's most ambitious companies, alongside a growing slate of original scripted fiction and nonfiction projects.
You'll work directly with our production team, helping manage our camera, lighting, and production equipment while supporting shoots from prep through wrap.
One day, you might be prepping cinema cameras and lenses for a commercial shoot. The next, you're testing lighting setups, organizing equipment, or assisting our crew on location.
We're looking for someone who's organized, hardworking, and eager to learn. You don't need to know everything, but you should be the kind of person who takes initiative, figures things out, and genuinely loves the craft of filmmaking.
This is an opportunity to gain real production experience, work alongside experienced filmmakers, and develop the technical and practical skills that go into making exceptional work.
What You'll Own
Manage our gear. Help organize, maintain, and track Story's camera, lighting, grip, audio, and production equipment.
Prep for shoots. Build camera and lighting packages, test equipment, charge batteries, organize media, and make sure everything is ready to go.
Keep equipment organized. Maintain an accurate inventory, track gear checkouts and returns, and ensure equipment is properly stored and cared for.
Support productions. Assist with equipment loading, transportation, setup, breakdown, and general production needs on set.
Troubleshoot technical issues. Help diagnose equipment problems, research solutions, and keep our gear in working condition.
Coordinate rentals. Assist with sourcing, picking up, and returning equipment from rental houses.
Improve our workflow. Find better ways to organize gear, streamline prep, and make our production operation more efficient.
Learn by doing. Work alongside our DPs, directors, and producers to develop your understanding of cinematography, lighting, and professional film production.
You're the Right Person If
You're passionate about filmmaking, cinematography, and production technology.
You have some hands-on experience with cameras, lighting, or film equipment through school, personal projects, or professional work.
You're highly organized and enjoy keeping equipment and workspaces clean, functional, and ready to use.
You're technically curious and like figuring out how things work.
You're proactive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of tasks without constant supervision.
You're willing to get your hands dirty, whether that means building a camera package, organizing cases, or loading a production truck.
You're comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change quickly.
You're based in the SF Bay Area.
What Sets You Apart
You love the gear. You're genuinely excited about cameras, lenses, lighting, and the technology behind filmmaking. You spend your own time learning about equipment and experimenting with how to use it.
You're obsessively organized. You believe every piece of equipment should have a place. You notice missing cables, uncharged batteries, and poorly packed cases before anyone else does.
You figure things out. When you encounter something you don't know, you research it, test it, and learn how it works. You're not afraid to ask questions, but you take initiative to find answers.
You're a team player. You understand that great productions depend on people who take pride in the details. You're happy to jump in wherever you're needed.
You want to grow as a filmmaker. You see this as an opportunity to learn from experienced directors, cinematographers, and producers while developing your own skills and creative ambitions.
