TITLE OF INTERNSHIP: Research Assistant Intern

ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: October – December 2026
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: The Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) at the Population Council is seeking a part-time Research Assistant Intern to support the Clinical and Socio-Behavioral Research team. CBR develops and tests products that expand sexual and reproductive health prevention options for women and girls. The socio-behavioral/clinical research function works to understand how product, provider, and end-user factors shape the acceptability, adherence, and continuation of these products, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. This internship supports the socio-behavioral/clinical research team: helping coordinate research activities and contributing to socio-behavioral data collection, coding, and analysis. It suits someone early in a public health or social science career who wants hands-on exposure to product development research at a mission-driven nonprofit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support preparation and organization of documents for Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and regulatory files
2. Assist with development of and support administration of quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments
3. Assist with basic data management and analysis for quantitative data
4. Conduct literature reviews and summarize relevant published research on product acceptability, adherence, and related topics
5. Contribute to development of manuscripts
6. Assist with drafting or formatting sections of reports and presentations
QUALIFICATIONS:
We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience and strong candidates may not have every qualification listed here. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse and/or nontraditional backgrounds who bring passion, skills, and experience in many or most of these areas.
1. Bachelor’s degree required, masters preferred; ideally in public health, social sciences, biology, gynecology, or a related field.
2. Familiarity with survey development, implementation, quantitative data analysis or survey software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, or REDCap). Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, and other Microsoft applications
3. Strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative lab environment.
4. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments with limited supervision.
5. Ability to work across time zones and support colleagues based in multiple countries.
Hourly rate: $24 per hour
