SUMMARY: The Safety Assistant Intern assists their Safety Manager on construction projects to establish and communicate a safe working environment to the field and crews. In this role, the Safety Assistant Intern is responsible for promoting and supporting the Helix safety culture and process as well as providing leadership and direction to their job site. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Willing to embrace our safety culture, “We are a service-oriented safety team, dedicated to supporting and helping our teams in the field” Collaborate with Safety manager to gain knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements Act as a champion of the Helix safety culture; monitors and encourages jobsite safety and accident prevention Support incident investigation process, site audits, subcontractor EH&S compliance, assist with new hire orientations and any additional safety-related tasks as assigned Partner with the safety team to evaluate the performance of Helix operational personnel regarding regulatory issues as well as Helix corporate safety policy and protocols Assist in the identification of safety-related training needs as well as conducting safety-related training Assist site management and supervision with close site support Assist in medical case management Assure training completions and other safety-related documentation is completed and submitted as required Review reports for trends and makes recommendations for protocol adjustments Performs other work as assigned COMPETENCIES: Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Personable, detail-oriented and ambitious work ethic Written and verbal skills Ability to achieve goals with a sense of urgency with minimal supervision Strong problem-solving skills REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Safety or Engineering OSHA 10, OSHA 30 certifications preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS: N (Not Applicable) - Activity is not applicable to this occupation O (Occasionally) - Occupation requires this activity up to 33% of the time (0 - 2.5+ hrs/day) F (Frequently) - Occupation requires this activity from 33% - 66% of the time (2.5 - 5.5+ hrs/day) C (Constantly) - Occupation requires this activity more than 66% of the time (5.5+ hrs/day) · Bending - O · Climbing – N · Crawling - N · Hearing - C · Lifting – Up to 15 lbs · Reach Outward - O · Reach Above Shoulder - O · Standing - F · Sitting - C · Talking - C · Squat/Kneel - O · Walking- O Helix Electric is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to diversity in our workforce.
