About the company

NewsBreak

Software Development · 51 to 200 employees

Here, everyone makes an impact.

Local life runs on local information: what happened down the street, who can fix this, where should we go tonight. NewsBreak began in 2015 to give everyone a place to find that out, and today more than 40 million people a month rely on us to understand what’s going on in their own zip code.

That work has grown into three platforms with one vision: powering local life. Led by founder and CEO Jeff Zheng, NewsBreak is our local life and news platform; Nearby AI connects people with the businesses and services around them; and NDot AI gives publishers and creators the tools to grow and earn from their audiences. All three are built on the same underlying technology.

We’re building for the long term, and we invest in the people who build with us. We’re headquartered in Mountain View, with offices in Seattle and New York. We’re Great Place to Work® certified and named to Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators (2025) and Fortune’s Best Workplaces in the Bay AreaTM (2026).

Help us power local life, whether you write code, shape products, tell our story, or run the business. Wherever you sit, your work reaches the people and communities we serve. We look for people who want to solve complex problems and own projects end to end; who stay curious and say what they think in service of a shared goal. If that’s you, we’d like to meet you.

Six values shape how we work together.

Results matter: Purpose guides everything we do. Eyes on the prize.

Growth mindset: We embrace new challenges with curiosity and zeal.

Strive for excellence: We give everything 100%, no matter how big or small the task may be.

Fight as one: We believe open, direct, and healthy discussion is the best way to achieve our shared vision.

User obsession: We empathize deeply with our users. Their experience is key to our success.

Strategic, long-term thinking: We don’t take shortcuts. We sacrifice short-term gains for much larger future returns.

If you’re inspired to dream big, innovate fast, and make a difference, we’d love to hear from you! For more information, visit www.newsbreak.com/about About the Role NDot AI is building a mini-drama (short drama) business. We're hiring two Short Drama Creative Editor Interns, one in the SF Bay Area and one in Beijing, to cut and QC the trailers and paid ad creatives that bring viewers to our dramas. Type: Internship, 3–6 months, 24+ hours/week Location: SF Bay Area (Mountain View) or Beijing Reports to: Design Lead. Creative requests and scheduling come from the Performance Marketing Lead. What You'll Do Cut trailers and ad creatives. Edit short dramas into 15–60 second trailers and paid ads in 9:16, with a strong hook in the first 3 seconds. These run on Meta, TikTok and Google ads and in in-app recommendations. You'll mainly work on titles where the partner sent no creatives or the creatives didn't meet our standards. QC partner creatives. This is your top daily priority. Partners are required to send ad creatives for their titles. You'll check each one for specs, subtitles, hook strength and ad-policy compliance on each platform, and make light edits when something doesn't pass. Produce creative variants every week. Follow the performance marketing team's test plan to make variants in batches, testing different hooks, end-card CTAs and subtitle styles. Then improve them based on CTR and CPI results. Run our short-drama channels on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram. Cut highlight clips and recap/commentary videos, and keep a steady posting schedule. Use AI tools to work faster. Use AI for auto-subtitling, dubbing, translation and smart editing, and build reusable creative templates. What We're Looking For Current student or recent graduate in film, media, design or a related field, with a short-form video editing portfolio. Please include a link to your work. Skilled in at least one of Premiere Pro, CapCut (or Jianying), or DaVinci Resolve. After Effects or motion graphics skills are a plus. You watch a lot of short dramas or vertical short-form video. You get hooks and beat-synced cuts, and you can explain why a specific ad makes people stop scrolling. You're curious about data. You're happy to look at CTR and CPI and change a creative based on what you see, not just make it look good. You can read and write English well enough to handle subtitles. Knowing ad policies on overseas social platforms is a plus. Experience with AI tools for editing, subtitles or dubbing is a plus. CPRA Privacy Notice for California Candidates
