Sterile Processing Apprentice Program

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 JOB SUMMARY: A Sterile Processing Apprentice participates in an on-the-job training program which builds professional and occupational skills to become a Sterile Processing Specialist upon successful completion of the program. The term of the program is sixteen (16) weeks including Sterile Processing classroom instruction and 400 clinical hours of hands-on training, as assigned. After successful completion of the program, the Apprentice will move into a Sterile Processing Specialist position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to meet physical demands as detailed in the Physical/Environmental Working Conditions below, such as extended periods of standing, walking, twisting and turning, bending and stooping, reaching overhead, lifting up to 50 pounds, and pushing and pulling carts up to 200 pounds. Sufficient sensation in fingers and upper extremity fine and gross motor skills to handle/assemble equipment, type on a keyboard, and perceive attributes of an object through touch. Sufficient hearing to converse with colleagues and hear beeping of equipment. Sufficient visual acuity to perform job functions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise. Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching The Sterile Processing Apprentice program is scheduled to begin on November 30, 2026.
