This position is currently hiring for Winter (Jan-March, 2027) and Summer
(May-June, 2027) in several locations in WA, TX, AZ, and MA.
You will be able to provide your preference of location and start date during
the application process but, we cannot guarantee that we can meet your selection
based on several factors including but not limited to the availability and
business needs of this role. Finalization on the location and start dates
available will be provided to you at the time of job offer.
Key job responsibilities
As a system development engineer intern, you will/may:
• Create, improve, or invent tools and/or applications that are a part of a
larger system.
• Build and operate a supportable product or service, and is making significant
technical contributions to it
• Write code that is secure, stable, testable, maintainable and has minimal
defects.
• Understanding of a variety of technologies such as hardware, software,
networking, and operating systems, and how they interact with one another
• Build systems and processes that enable other builders through improved
safety, agility, and automation
• Seek to learn the business context and technologies behind your team’s system
implementations.
A day in the life
Our internship program provides hands-on learning and building experiences for
students who are interested in a career in system engineering. In addition to
working on an impactful project, you will have the opportunity to engage with
Amazonians for both personal and professional development, expand your network,
and participate in fun activities with other interns throughout the summer. No
matter the location of your internship, we give you the tools to own your
internship and learn in a real-world setting.

system development engineer interns to join one of our many lines of business.
Amazon interns have the opportunity to work alongside the industry’s brightest
engineers who innovate every day on behalf of our customers. You will be matched
to a manager and a mentor. You will have the opportunity to impact the evolution
of Amazon technology as well as lead mission-critical projects early in your
career. Your work will contribute to solving some of the most complex technical
challenges in the company. Basic Qualifications: - Are enrolled in or have
completed a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer
Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related
discipline
- Experience coding, scripting, automating in at least one language (e.g.,
Python, C, C++, Java, Ruby, or PowerShell)
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Work 40 hours/week minimum and commit to 12 week internship maximum Preferred
Qualifications: - Experience with open-source technologies (e.g. Linux, Spring,
React)
- Experience with TCP/ICP networking fundamentals and application of IP
protocols such as: DNS, DHCP, NTP, SMTP, and SNMP
- Experience with distributed computing, programs and systems
- Experience with automating and simplifying team development, test, and
operations processes
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design,
operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
- Experience with documentation and problem-solving skills with attention to
detail
