Youth Ministry & Discipleship Intern

Description Position Summary St. Theresa Catholic Church & School is seeking a Youth Ministry & Discipleship Intern to support the parish's Confirmation and Youth Ministry programs. This internship is designed for a college student who is passionate about Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church, and helping young people grow as missionary disciples. The intern will work directly with the Director of Discipleship and gain hands-on experience in Catholic youth ministry, evangelization, discipleship, ministry operations, communications, event execution, and leadership. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth ministry & discipleship, organized, dependable, teachable, and willing to contribute both administratively and directly to the life of the youth ministry & Confirmation. Primary Responsibilities (3) 1. Youth Ministry Operations & Administration ~ 50% Prepare routine communications and materials for teens, parents, volunteers, and small group leaders. Maintain youth ministry and Confirmation calendars, schedules, records, and materials. Organize digital files, forms, documents, and track action items, deadlines, and follow-up tasks. Assist with retreat and event preparation, logistics, and coordination. 2. Evangelization & Discipleship Implementation ~ 30% Assist with the preparation and execution of Saturday youth ministry gatherings and other events. Support adult and teen small-group leaders in creating welcoming environments for teenagers. Build positive relationships with teenagers while maintaining appropriate ministry boundaries. Assist with facilitating small-group conversations and other elements of youth ministry programming. 3. Spiritual Formation & Professional Development ~ 20% Participate in regular one-on-one meetings with the Director of Discipleship. Learn the principles and practices of Catholic evangelization, discipleship, and youth ministry. Gain experience in ministry planning, project management, communication, and leadership. Receive coaching and feedback for personal, spiritual, professional, and leadership growth. Qualifications & Characteristics The ideal candidate will: Be a practicing Catholic and college student committed to growing in faith and following Jesus Christ. Have a genuine passion for working with teenagers and helping young people encounter Christ. Be organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow through on responsibilities. Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently after training. Be teachable, coachable, and receptive to feedback. Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, volunteers, parents, and teenagers. Be comfortable using common digital and organizational tools. Demonstrate maturity, good judgment, and professionalism when working with minors. Be willing to contribute to both administrative work and hands-on ministry. Be available for some evening and weekend ministry activities. Be able to commit to approximately 10–15 hours per week during the academic year. Previous youth ministry, parish, leadership, communications, or administrative experience is helpful but not required. Character, initiative, teachability, and a desire to serve are highly valued. What the Intern Will Gain The intern will receive hands-on experience and mentorship in Catholic youth ministry while developing: Practical experience in evangelization, discipleship, and teen faith formation. Hands on one-on-one mentorship working directly with the Director of Discipleship. Leadership and professional development. Experience planning and executing ministry events. Skills in communication, organization, project management, and ministry operations. Exposure to Confirmation preparation and intentional small-group discipleship. Opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and vocational discernment. Transferable skills applicable to ministry, education, nonprofit work, communications, and leadership. Schedule & Commitment The internship requires up to 15 hours per week. Expected commitment of approximately 10–15 hours/week, depending on ministry needs and the student's academic schedule. The schedule will be determined with the Director of Discipleship and may include weekday office hours, meetings, ministry preparation, and evening or weekend ministry events. Because youth ministry primarily takes place on weekends, occasional Saturday evening participation will be expected. Supervision The Youth Ministry Discipleship Intern will report directly to the Director of Discipleship and collaborate with members of the Evangelization and Catechesis team. The intern will receive regular direction, feedback, and mentorship throughout the internship. Commitment to the Mission of the Church The Youth Ministry Discipleship Intern is expected to support the mission, teachings, values, and policies of St. Theresa Catholic Church & School and the Catholic Church. Because this position involves direct ministry with minors, the successful candidate must complete all applicable diocesan and parish requirements, including required background screening, safe-environment training, and other applicable protocols. Compensation This is a part-time, paid student internship position with an anticipated academic-year commitment.
