The Air Instrument Technician Associate is distinguished from the Air Instrument Technician in that the Associate performs basic technical work that includes filter installation, filter collection, operation, and maintenance of sampling units during the week.
The position is grant-funded and full-time at 30 hours per week, with scheduled work five days a week which includes frequent weekend and holiday schedules.

We Require
One year of technical experience in electronics, mechanical repair, and maintenance
High school diploma or GED
Post-secondary education in electronics may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
Other Requirements
Air Instrument Associates must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record by the time of hire
This position supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security BioWatch program and requires successful completion of all DHS-required security screening, including any screening necessary to access designated government information technology systems. Individuals who are not cleared by DHS cannot perform BioWatch work. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining all required DHS approvals and system-access authorizations
BioWatch participants must pass a health physical and OSHA respirator certification within six months of hire and on a yearly basis thereafter
Air Instrument Associates must complete certification in the USEPA 40-Hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operation Course within one year of hire date

Job Contributions
Collects and transports air quality samples to the lab, using chain of custody documentation based on a collection schedule
Performs mandated quality control and quality assurance checks quarterly, semi-annually, and annually, in accordance with DHS regulations
Assembles, installs, operates, repairs, maintains, calibrates sampling units, rebuilds pumps, and documents associated events
Maintains and tracks sampler instrument performance logs, and reports in accordance with DHS regulations
Participates in DHS environmental sampling, exercises, and special events
Participates in training as required
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a combination of office and field environments, driving a county-issued vehicle, with occasional exposure to fumes, smoke, and dust; work is frequently performed outdoors and may be performed during periods of high temperatures and humidity, including days when the temperature exceeds 110° F
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, kneel, reach, twist, climb, balance, or crouch
May be required to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, and/or holidays
Must have sufficient manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment
Must be able to manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, and multiple and complicated tasks. Must be able to maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor
Protective equipment required: Safety boots, full-face respirator, Tyvek® suit, gloves, earplugs, dust masks, safety glasses, hard hat
