Overview
We are seeking a full-time Intern - Software Engineering at Garmin's Tucson, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for Software Engineer Intern: learning and training to develop software for Garmin's communication and navigation products in a team-oriented environment under supervision. Positioning Software Engineer Intern: learning and training to develop GNSS & INS based positioning solutions.
Essential Functions
Learn to develop software in C, C++, Assembly language, or other selected languages for Garmin communication and navigation products in accordance with Garmin’s software development methodology with guidance
Learn to test software using debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers
Learn to perform software releases and software quality assurance activities
Learn to perform maintenance activities for products already in production in addition to new product software design
Associates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities
Basic Qualifications
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a field relevant to perform the essential functions of this job description
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Software Engineer:
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must possess relevant experience and/or training in a high-level language such as C, C++, C# or Java relevant to Garmin’s business needs
Must possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object-oriented design methodology relevant to Garmin’s business needs
Positioning Software Engineer:
Must possess knowledge in positioning algorithms for consumer applications
Must possess experience in software development and engineering with C/C++ for embedded, real-time environments
Must possess the ability to use scripting languages to automate analysis (i.e. Python, MATLAB, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
Pursuing a master's degree in Geomatics, Aerospace or Software engineering
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Previous experience working in a team environment
Positioning Software Engineer:
Experience in Java
Knowledge of inertial navigation techniques (e.g. vehicle and pedestrian dead reckoning, GNSS aided INS)
Knowledge of carrier phase measurement processing methods
Knowledge of GNSS measurement and how they are impacted by environment and receiver design
