JOB DETAILS: Location: Santa Clara, CA, USA Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires the student to work full time (40 hours a week), in either a hybrid or onsite work structure throughout the duration of the co-op/intern term Duration: Summer Internship: Semester Students: May 24, 2027 - August 13, 2027 Quarter Students: June 21, 2027 - September 10, 2027 WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: We are seeking highly motivated ML Systems Research Engineering intern/co-op to join our team. In this role you will– Develop and optimize infrastructure for distributed training, reinforcement learning, inference, and model optimization. Build scalable systems for experiment management, rollout generation, model serving, and evaluation. Improve training and inference efficiency through parallelism, scheduling, checkpointing, caching, and performance optimization. Develop tools that integrate AI models with engineering systems, evaluation pipelines, and benchmarking frameworks. Support experiment tracking, logging, monitoring, and reproducibility across ML workflows. Analyze system performance and help identify improvements in reliability, scalability, and resource utilization. Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate experimental requirements into production-quality infrastructure. Document system designs, experimental results, and technical implementations. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Programming experience in Python. Coursework or hands-on experience in artificial intelligence, or computer systems. Familiarity with PyTorch or similar machine learning frameworks. Interest in distributed systems, reinforcement learning, LLMs, or AI infrastructure. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
