Mercury Systems is seeking a motivated and innovative Manufacturing Engineering
Intern eager to learn, contribute, and bring fresh ideas to our Surface Mount
Technology factory in Phoenix, AZ. In this hands-on role, you’ll support
improving operational efficiencies across the different workstreams within our
SMT processes.
Job Responsibilities:
* Support manufacturing operations by performing pick‑and‑place, chip and wire
activities
* Assist with reflow processes to ensure proper soldering and assembly quality
* Support wave soldering operations to maintain consistent production standards
* Contribute to conformal coating processes to protect electronic components
* Help design and optimize station layouts to improve workflow and efficiency
* Conduct capacity analysis to ensure production targets and resource planning
are met
Required Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in industrial
engineering manufacturing engineering, or a closely related field, with
relevant coursework completed (e.g., operations research, statistics, systems
design)
* A minimum GPA of 3.1 is required. You will be asked to submit your
transcripts during the review process
* Familiarity with programs like Excel, Minitab, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or
simulation tools (e.g., Arena, Simio) used for process analysis and
optimization
* Understanding of Lean/Six Sigma principles
* Strong quantitative and statistical skills; Ability to work with data,
perform statistical analysis, and apply mathematical models to solve
efficiency and productivity problems
* Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications:
* CAD/Simulation Software Experience; AutoCAD, SolidWorks
* ERP/MES Systems; SAP, Oracle, or other Manufacturing Execution Systems for
production tracking and inventory management
* Data Analytics & Visualization; Skills in Python, R, SQL, or Power
BI/Tableau
